Institute faculty Mary Fridley and Marian Rich have been tapped to present at the national conference of the International Society of Humor Studies in Oakland, California in July, on the history and development of their popular, philosophical/ performatory workshop, “Laughing Matters.”
“The world is not as funny as it used to be – and more often than not, is downright appalling,” says Fridley. “We relate to everyone as culture-makers in our workshops. We teach people how to become versatile at creating more playful, lighthearted, humorous environments at home, school, on the job and in their communities. Being able to laugh and play with everything in our lives, we believe, is essential to growth.”
Since introducing the workshop several years ago, the duo has brought the workshop out to several community and church groups throughout New York City.
“There is somewhat of a pent-up demand for learning how to find what’s funny,” says Fridley.
