16 Cities, 14 Countries

Who are we, and who are becoming across borders?
Creating Communities Across Borders is a global performance of play and solidarity produced simultaneously in 16 cities and 14 countries. It’s created in support of grassroots communities that are “performing the world” across borders, even as borders close on millions of displaced people.
It will be a day of synchronized events led by performance activists of many nationalities with a focus on building community and creating possibilities for new kind of conversations. Having met in various places — from refugee camps to conferences, as refugees, migrants and locals — we come together to create a collective performance of play and solidarity. Join us!
We will organize group activities — music, poetry and art performances — in 16 cities and participate in an online call that brings all together worldwide. The conversation will allow us to ask questions of one other and perhaps have new kinds of conversation. And we will launch an online fundraiser to support Play is Hope, founded by East Side Institute alumna Elena Boukouvala, and its grassroots collaborations/joint performance activism projects involving refugees, immigrants and locals across Europe. Ten percent of funds will be donated to the Pikpa (www.lesvossolidarity.org) refugee camp and to the Mosaic (www.lesvosmosaik.org) educational and cultural center, both based in Lesvos, Greece, and volunteer built and run.
Creating Community Across Borders is a project of Play is Hope in partnership with the East Side Institute (www.eastsideinstitute.org) and the Performing the World community (www.performingtheworld.org).
We invite you to perform the world with us and to create us on Saturday, March 4! Participation is free.
Groups are being organized locally in:
Canada (Vancouver@10 am)
Greece (Thessaloniki and Lesvos @ 8pm)
Romania (Baia Mare@8pm)
Turkey (San Ulfa@9pm)
USA (NY@1pm and SF@10am).
All are welcome! To take part, and for information on how to join in locally on March 4, please email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
