In this three-minute video, Lois Holzman introduces the second edition of “Vygotsky at Work and Play,” now available through Routledge, a global publisher of academic texts. The new edition includes two brand new chapters and a comprehensive appendix with detailed updates on programs of the development community. Among the new material is the first overview/analysis of the All Stars Project’s award winning police/community relations program, “Operation Conversation, Cops and Kids,” developed by Institute co-founder Fred Newman and Institute faculty Lenora Fulani.
According to Routledge editors, “Vygotsky and Work and Play,” published in 2009, had become “a modern classic in its area.” The second edition was conceived as a platform “to show how your performance-based methodology of development has evolved over the past 6 years.” The book introduces Holzman and Newman’s Vygotskian-inspired methodology of development and learning and some of the therapeutic, educational, youth development and organizational development programs it has inspired.
The publication of the second edition by Routledge follows the 2015 publication of the Japanese edition of Vygotsky at Work and Play by Tokyo-based Shin-yo-sha Publishing, a leading academic publisher.
